I have a 2004 F250, all stock, I have 285x75x16 tires. Problem I am having is my front end seems like it is bouncing up and down as I am driving down the road. At first I thought it was ballancing in the tires, had them looked at and they were worn so I got new ones on the front, I stll have the issue, plus if it were a ballance issue my wheel would shake side to side. my wheel doesnt shake at all but my truck sure does. any help out there where to start?? I just put pro comp shocks on last year.
If it is a shake, check tie rod ends, steering stabilizer, etc.
If it is a bounce, I'm thinking shocks. I have had my pro comps on about a year and a half now and I think they need to go. I do get an occasional bounce, but the seem to shake the heck outta the truck when I hit a bump.
I'm really not that smart when it comes to suspensions. Maybe someone smarter than me with chime in.
it is a bounce, could the shocks already be worn out after a year and a half?? It doesnt bounce any more when I hit a bump than normal driving, but it is a contiueous bounce.
Many shocks out there are not really adequate for trucks and heavy duty use. I have no comment on the pro comps. I can say that many are unhappy with the Monroe shocks. I myself am unhappy with Monroe shocks.
KYB or Bilsteins are excellent choices. The main thing is you need a shock that has enough damping strength to match the weight of the vehicle and the unsprung weight. If you don't have enough damping, it allows the vehicle to bounce, and can actually produce a rougher ride than a shock that is stiff.
That is assuming that bounce is actually your problem from your descriptions, a shake is different from a bounce. Shacking is usually caused by something being loose or out of balance.
The first thing I would do (and am gonna do) is swap out the shocks. I don't think these pro comps can handle a truck this size. I am considering the Bilsteins this next time around.
