Hey everyone. I'm about to start upgrading parts in my front end, since it's got 155k on it now and I'm starting to get a slight vibration in the steering wheel, and because my shocks are worn out and ejecting me from my seat.
I've heard a lot about the Rancho rs9000 shocks, with the adjustable settings. Has anyone used these, if so what did you think of them?
Really just looking for suggestions on good set of shocks, especially since Rancho is having that sale all month long.

Also, truck is a CC FX4. Thanks.
Do you want the adjustability of the RS9000? If so, I think most people are very happy with that shock. If you don't think you will need to adjust them, the RS7000 also gets very good reviews. The RS5000 is a little too light for these trucks in my opinion, but if you don't do any rough road or off road driving you might be happy with them. They are about the equivalent of the OEM shocks that came on your truck.
And of course Bilstein is the tried and true go-to shock for the Super Duty.
I've heard pretty good things about the Bilstein shocks, but I'm not really sure which one would be best to go with.
I do a lot of mixed driving, highway and dirt roads. I'm not really sure how much I would need to adjust them, but I think it would be cool to have the ability to do so whenever.
So I guess it's down to which brand, Bilstein and Rancho. How many miles do y'all think I could get good use of them before I have to replace them?
I think Rancho has a lifetime warranty. Bilstein has a lifetime warranty on the HD line, but the 5150 series is considered a racing item and not lifetime warranty. Just check their web sites for warranty terms. I think you will find that they last longer than OEM.
Both Rancho and Bilstein are good choices. I put on an 8 inch lift and went with their shocks (Fabtech) and that was a bad choice. One started leaking after about 18 months and one of their hydro bump stops did the same. I am going to change out my rear shocks and I am going with bilstein.
I noticed on the Rancho 9000's there's a controller to change the settings, do you have to buy the controller to change the settings, or can you do it manually?

I've had the Bilstein levelling kit on my truck for going on 7 years and the coils and shocks that came with that kit are all still working great! I wouldn't trade them for anything..... 300% better than stock!

You can change the settings manually. Rancho 9000 has 9 setting for your pleasure. You do not have to buy the controller, just have to craw under the truck to change the shocks setting when ned to. As for the controller, it is another $240 and need to install the hoses to each shocks along with pump...ect then you can control the settings remotely.
If you wait and keep checking Rancho site, they some time have a $500 rebate when you buy certain rancho items, one of them being the shocks. I saw the $500 rebate in one of my old magazine in either 2010 or 2011 and I bought my rancho back in June 2012. The $500 deal was when you buy a set of Rancho shocks and a Jeep lift kit. A bunch of Excursion owners, myself included, bought the Rancho 9000 and a Jeep lift kit for a total of ~$582. After $500 rebate, you actually paid $82 for 4 ranch 9000 shocks. Sell the Jeep lift kit in Craig list to recover some money and you may have a set of rancho shock with money back. Most of us don't have a jeep but bought the lift kit to get the $500 rebate.
Hahah, that's funny. That's what kind of brought my attention to the Rancho's, since they're having that sale all of October where you get a 4th item free or something, so I'd get a set of $440 shocks for $340.
I ran Bilsteins and then was asked to try the new Rancho 7000's. I like them a lot. Can't say I saw any real difference in them vs the Bilsteins (which I liked also).
I like the Bilstein HD ones the bpounds sugested, thank you sir. I just put them on a few weeks ago. I do have an 05 w/coil spring. What year is your truck. The leaf spring may not ride the same.

Wait for the $500 rebate. Google for Rancho shocks, I order 2 front and 2 rear RS999267 and RS999266 for a total of $329 free shipping from Truckaddons.com, and Jeep lift kit RS6444 for $261.48. Total $590.48.
Got the $500 rebate, so I am currently paid $90,48 for four Rancho shocks, plus a Jeep lift kit still waiting to sell. If I can get $90.48 out of it. I break even.... The kit cost $261.48, there bound to be someone will pay between $100-$150 to a new in the box Jeep lift kit...

One of the old 4X4 Magazine I have at home, it was a Sept 2010 issue has the advertise of $500 rebate. The last one they had ended in Jun 2012. I don't know if 2011 had any. From the look of it, Rancho may have it every year...
If you can't wait, at least shop around to get the cheapest price. I got my at $329 which is still less than buy three get one free as FordTruckEnthusaist indicated.
