Can someone tell me exactly how it operates? The one I have is vacuumed operated off of the radiator hose. Is is supposed to shut as soon as the truck starts? Even if the outside temp is 95 degrees?
Sounds like a shutterstat that is used on old diesel powered semi trucks. Never knew they made them for pickups.
As they are on trucks, they use air pressure. But, I suppose if there was enough vacuum while motor is running it could work also.
They usually are sprung open so if anything fails, they are open and not shut. There is a thermostat control in the water supply somewhere that controls the air going to shutter control. Depending on temp, it either opens or closes shutters to maintain temperature. Old diesels would get cold if they idled too much, so these would help maintain heat in the engine.
Lest we forget the forum is for big trucks too. What model truck and engine? The shutters should usually be closed when the engine is cold, even if it's 95 degrees out.
