Has anyone made their own sheet metal door panels? like some race cars have door panels just of sheet metal with the door handle sticking out. My door panels(second pair, just as bad as the first) are shot. I don't feel like spending a ton of money on door panels, and I like the smooth metal finish.
Ive seen a whole bunch done in either sheetmetal or diamond plate. Heres mine, not a raw metal finish, but maybe it can get you ideas. youll have to search in there for when I made the base for my door panels.
thanks yall. Where do yall get the sheet metal in sheets big enough to do this stuff? I like the idea of aluminum, but whichever is cheaper is the way I'll be going.
I get my stuff from the local metal supply place. Shop for "rem" or "drops" which are smaller pieces cut off larger jobs & sold by the pound typically.
I made mine outta Masonite board. Then made an armrest outta some cherry I had laying around. Costed me a total of 25 bucks and a few hours worth of work. When I get a camera ill post some pics... Looks way better than the faactory door panels in my opinion.
I got a metal shop about 15 miles down the road, might stop by there. I think I'll go with steel sheet metal so I can weld me up a custom arm rest... I'll do that stuff in the daylight. I'm gonna draw it all up, then work on the arm rests.
