Question Torque Shift Trans Help

Recently took a 2006 F-350 in on trade for a different vehicle. It was supposed to have a new transmission just put in it but now I realize that it is not. Anyway when you first start the truck it takes about 5 seconds for the truck to engage into gear and if you try to stop the truck it will kill the motor or bog it down alot. Also the transmission fluid smells a little burnt but does look ok to me. I am curious if this is just a converter issue or what. I had the code's read and nothing with the transmission popped up but the next day the tow light started flashing. Also I have some pics I will try and get posted later but Im sure the inline filter is the original on the truck. I am wanting to fix the truck right before I sell it. I will not screw anyone and want to get this fixed before I let the truck go. Thanks

When the tow/haul flashed one or more codes were stored. Reading the codes before that didn't provide any data, it's in the computer now.

Get the codes read with the proper tool. It has to be CAN compliant and have Ford specific software. This will NOT be a cheap code reader.

An INNOVA 3130 will do the trick.

I have a friend who went to school at Nashville for diesel mechanic and worked at swamps diesel on the side while he was going to school there. He has the software for ford trucks so friday I am going to run over and we are goin to throw his laptop on my truck and see what it says. But I did recieve some bad news today. It's a small world but I just traded for this truck a little over a week ago from an individual that lives over 4 hours away. And one of this person's friends got ahold of my number and called me and informed me that the truck I got has been broke down over a year and that the guy just pulled tranny and shoved a torque in the tranny without changing filters or anything just to get it going long enough to make the trade and he also informed me that one of the head gaskets were blown and that the truck was in limp mode. I dunno if any of this is true or not but the truck does seem extremely doggy to me with no power. I checked oil and coolant and both are clean however the back passenger side of the engine is a little greasy but I have only put about 50 miles on the truck since I have owned it so I cannot really tell what it is yet. I am begginning to get really sick about this whole situation and I know it is my mistake for letting it happen. But I looked it over pretty well when I got it and it drove good and I don't have any experience with the 6.0 really so I just assumed they all were a little doggy. I have been reading on this sight all day about head gasket repair and studs and I do all of my own mechanic work normally and it sounds like a job and alot of money. This truck has 146K on it. If I do find out headgasket is blown what is the life of this motor if I stud it and replace gasket and put on egr delete or I am I more than likely just gonna keep dumping money into it?

Lots of life left There are guys here that are close or over 500K and
more on here 6.0L still running strong
@145 is when I got mine and it is very strong.
If the head gaskets went south. If I was going to sell it as
a good running truck I would use factory gaskets (they say there the best)
not use studs (money) Have the heads and the deck check for level and true
make sure you have good oil and EGR coolers. Flush the cooling system
(add a coolant filter if your going to keep it) Get that transmission fixed. Drive it yourself for a while
ONLY use FORD type filters for oil and fuel. With the Ford oil filter cap
Also bad/weak batteries can and will kill the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM)
For that you can look to Ed @ FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair <---Good Guy
One good place to start is https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html at the top
Most of all you can read and ask questions here. There
are many that can and will help even some that work full time on this
truck at work all day.

I agree with ^ except if you are going all the way in replace head gaskets to also stick in the ARP studs instead of torque-to-yield (FORD) bolts. Even if you NEVER put on a tuner, you will prob never have to replace head gaskets again.

Well here is what I am thinking. Im thru and thru ford guy I have had couple dodge's and they have good motor's and super easy to work on but ac, body, tranny and just about everything except the motor is about 1/2 as nice as a ford. I absolutely love everything about this new truck so much but 6.0 scared me bad and I did not wanna trade for this truck but guy gave me a offer i couldn't refuse which I now realize because truck was broken. Either way I am thinking about just going in and building a nice tranny for the truck and doing it right. I had just a couple questions and I will do some research I hate asking questions that I know have been answered on here 2000 times but what size injectors do these trucks have and what restricts you first on these.. is it injector size, turbo or HPOP? If I am going to keep the truck I would like to get it atleast around 500-600HP range if it's possible to make that much HP reliably? Also has anyone on here tried revmax converters? I have a good friend who will build me a transmission at his cost but I must supply all the parts. Thanks

BPofMD I do agree that if he plans on keeping it then
YES put the studs in it.
He said that he was going to sell and depending on the person
that is buying it might be hard to get the expense back.

Well bout made a mistake today. I was going to go ahead and order the gaskets and studs. I was shopping around on the internet and found ARP stud set and Black Onyx gasket set and almost bought it but decided to look a little longer then read a post and everyone saying BO gaskets aren't worth a crap? So what would be the best choice just OEM ford gaskets? Also just out of curiosity is anyone running a revmax converter and where is the best place to buy a heavy duty rebuild kit for the trans? I came out really good on trade on my truck it is an 06 with 142 on odometer. Truck books right around 22k and I allowed 16k on trade. I am still in the big debate process here wether I wanna build this thing right or just put stock tranny in and headgasket and send it down the road. My transmission quoted me $1400 dollars with converter for complete rebuild that is with me pulling it and delivering it but that's with his labor and everything building the tranny back to stock. That's also counting all new sensors which I thought was really cheap but the guy has built 2 trannies for me on dodges and always worked perfect and I trust him. Sorry for such long posts ive been reading on this sight so much I have soooo many questions lol Thanks

OEM Ford head gaskets are the way to go.
Your guy does not sound too bad for
the work that he will be doing. It always helps
when you have good history with a mechanic.

If you do a little dealer shopping you can get a Ford reman transmission that comes with the convertor and a new cooler with a 36 month unlimited mile warranty. If it's correctly installed and fails inside that time frame then the dealership will replace it under warranty.

Ok guys ended up putting a converter and 1 new solenoid in the transmission and shifts great and seems to be ok for the time being now I have a major new issue. Truck lost half it's get up and go the other day and I thought it was going into limp mode again which may be part of the case but check engine light came on throwing 6 codes!! P0069, P0299, P0470, P0472, P0478, P1000... Truck won't make any boost at WOT untill it hit's 3rd gear then spools up quickly.. Also sounds like waste gate keeps opening and closing all the time or something weird. Exhaust gets quiet then really loud. Thanks for any info guys I appreciate it.

Everything points to the EBP sensor IMO.
