Sticking Injectors

2004 F350 6.0 200,000 miles. I am having injector problems. It is not all the time, but when in traffic or taking off from a stop. Big cloud of Blue Grey smoke no power. I pull over a rev up till it clears up. Then it is fine for a few days. What kind of fuel additive can I use to clean things up before I replace any injectors.

I would strongly recommend trying hot shot secret before replacing an injector.

A buddy with a 2007 6.0 F350 had a few injectors that were headed south. We did the turbo as a precaution, but changed the oil and ran some Hot Shot secret to see if it would clear up his missing injectors. We ended up having to replace injectors #1 and #5 instead of two others that were potentially failing.

My father is an old school mechanic and told me to run 5 gallon of kerosene on top of a 1/4 tank of fuel. Does this make sense?

EGR valve will act like that also. Have you scanned for codes?

According to this, injector sticking is an oil issue, not a fuel issue.

In an older diesel, yes.

In a 6.0, absolutely not.

You could probably get away with running kerosene in a 7.3, but 6.0s are built to extremely tight tolerances. Diesel fuel and diesel fuel only is what goes through the fuel side of that motor. Anything else and it won't be pretty...

Hot Shot's Secret | Lubrication Specialties, Inc.

The problem is that you have to continuously add Hot Shots at every oil change at $52 a bottle.

Save your money and put it towards a new injector.

Just my 3 1/2 cents.

Agree 100%. If it is indeed an injector or 2 none of these additives work. I have tried them all myself in the past. Waste of $$$. You can try switching to a synthetic 5w-40 the next time you need an oil change, if you are using 15w-40. Save your money replace the injector, use a fuel additive for lubricity if you don't already.

Sometimes it ends up fixing the problem, but per your suggestion replacing the injector is ultimately what you have to do.

It's a 50/50 shot with Hot Shot Secret...
