I have a 2016 F350 disel with 2500 miles. It's at the dealer now they are telling me some metal shavings clogged one of the injectors. Has anyone ever heard of this and what should I be looking for?
The service rep at ford said if any shavings went into any of the other injectors it would have burned up because disel engines run so hot and they are clear except one. Should I contact ford customer service before the dealer officially says they are only replacing only one injector or wait to see what they say ?
Thank you for all the info.
Dose the metal shavings that go through the injectors go into the engine and could that damage the engine?
I would think the metal shaving have to be fractions of milimeters. Only time I've read of metal shavings it is because the HPFP self destructed. As others have said, the only way to be sure is a complete overhaul of fuel system like Senix described.
If this was a customer pay (your fault), they would tell you the only way to be sure is complete overhaul.

I will agree with the others here.....you need a complete fuel system replacement and flush of all fuel lines, filters, etc. Do not settle for anything less!
Hopefully, they will not find contaminated fuel, because if they do it will be on you. And believe me, they will check!
Make them tell you where those shavings came from!! I mean, DEMAND they tell you. It came from somewhere in the fuel system, it was their part that caused it, NOT WATER IN THE FUEL! Which is what some are being told is why they won't pay under warranty. Then, when they tell you where the shavings came from you have proof that the fuel system needs replacing. I would be completely flabbergasted if a tech, or service rep told me this was a normal occurance, and replacing one injector is going to take you trouble free down the road. No way. Good luck, and keep us posted.
The check engine light came on so I brought to them my truck seemed to be running fine. They tested the fuel and it was fine and they found metal shavings in one injector which clogged it so they said the other injectors compensated for it so Monday they are going to take it apart to find out what caused it he said he thinks it has to do with the high pressure line but not sure
