I scored an 302 with E7 for cheap but the only problem is that it's a 28 oz setup. I want to install it in my 1991 F150, it did come with harmonic balance so I just need a 28 oz flex plate. So I guess my question is this, Would a flex plate from lets say a flex plate from 1979 F150 work? I'm guessing my truck has a E40D tranny.
That's no good you need to know what transmission you have since the 3 potential models(AOD,4R70W,E4OD) require a different flexplate. Check the trans code on the drivers door pillar calibration decal and verify that what is there is correct by comparing the pan shape against the pictures in the transmission spotters guide and by how overdrive is selected.. shifter position or by button.

Thanks I think I was getting ahead of myself, I'm going to the check the tranny before I try to find a flex plate for it. According to the door tag, the code is "T" for the transmission so it might be an Aod.
T is an AOD yes which is all mechanical no electronic controls at all, and a 28oz flexplate is available for it, the most recent vehicle to have the right flexplate for your application would be a late '80s 351 crown vic... 28oz imbalance and 164 tooth ring gear.
