Long Term Storage

It's looking like I wont be able to start the work on my truck as soon as I wanted due to funds..

So what is the best way to store my truck for a good year or so?
.
I have it in the garage but the truck currently still is in running condition(with oil gas etc).

The truck is a '66 flareside with a 300 6 in it currently and a 4 speed on the floor with granny gear..

I remember in shop class they always told us if you were storing an engine for a long time you were supposed to drain the oil out of it, then use clean plastic to cover up things like the carburetor and places where dirt or spiders could get into the engine. I don't remember the reason for draining the oil, but you should put a post it on the steering wheel or something says it has no oil that way nobody tried to start it.

I think you should also try to keep very little gas in it. If it takes several years for you to get back to it, the gas may go bad and it sucks draining gas cause you have to do something with it.

Add some Sta bil or Seafoam to the gas, crank it let it come up to temp about 3 times over the year and you should be OK.

It is not a high dollar race engine, it will be fine. Start it more often if you like, wont hurt anything.

You shouldn't keep a small amount of fuel in the tank. Small amounts of fuel go bad quicker than large amounts. I would fill the tank add sta-bil then run it to get the stabil into the carb. Then it should be fine to sit.

My truck sat from 1997 to 2009, and I had a lot of trouble getting the carburetor clean, and finally had to boil it out for 24 hours. I tried to clean the tank, but ended up replacing it. I replaced the Fuel pump and put some BG super charge in the new tank and that cleaned the lines. I drive my truck daily now, and have no issues. The 240/300 is the best engine ever built. It is the Timex of engines.

I full tank with sta-bil is better in my opinon; doesn't allow moisture to lay on the tank side walls and rust.
If I was having to wait a year or so to build my truck, and the truck wasn't going to be a complete engine tear down rebuilt and it was going to be easy access during this time frame; I would place it on jack stands I would crank it up monthly and if possible put it in drive and turn the axle and hit the brake to keep them from freezing up as well; if I couldn't drive it.
