I have never heard of this but I have to believe it's from either *severe* abuse or an incorrectly installed lift. The running gear on an Ex is really beefy and there is just no way to easily do what you describe.
I have heard of this sort of thing, but on older axles with plug welded tubes not the more modern friction welded ones. This has actually been a concern on my truck, as the plug weld holes started showing signs of leaking.
I doubt gentle acceleration was the cause of this. More like hot sticky 35s, and punched it off the line.
