first post.
ive loved fords forever!!!
Ive just got my first truck 2003 xlt 2wd 4.2l v6 5speed(learned at an early age) plane jane but i love it!!!! im very lucky!!!

we own three fords.
a 1999 f150 4.2 wid 210,000miles
a 2003 4.2 with 103,000miles
and a monster 198?s f350 that is our plow truck with a 350 v8. i personaly used this truck to pull down a dead tree lol (needed fire wood)
but back on topic im trying to get more power out of this 4.2 its just so sluggish. im planing on a K&N intake system. how much horse power will that give it? and how does a thrush glass pack sound on the v6?
Thanks Marshall
Go with a little science and common sense.
The stock filter passes more air than the motor can use so a replacment won't add anymore the motor can use.
Same with the exhaust system.
The motor displacment is quite small and uses all the same filter capacity and exhaust capacity the bigger motors use.
In this day and age the factory cannot afford to let any power lay in small parts due to competition with other makes for sales.
The application is 'truck' not prerformance.
You may be trying to compare with a 350 cu/in Chev that is no match to the small v6.
As you might have noticed, the new v6 is outfitted with a turbo charger to get the power of a bigger motor and does infact make more torque down low than an NA motor of larger size.
Hope I have brought some perspective to you about the situation.
Good luck.
