Removing Barn Door Trim Panel...tips?

The driver side barn door is not opening so I'm getting ready to dig in and see if some linkages have worked their way loose on the handle. Do you all have any tips for removing the panels? If I remember correctly, someone at some point said that once the panels are removed, it's hell if not impossible to get them back on because of the clips; is this true? And if so, do you all any suggestions as to how I should tackle the problem?

Grab a flat bar and work it in from the edge to the clips and pry the panel off a little at a time. I have had mine off and in a few times with no problems. Good luck.

Okay, good info! I'll see how it goes. I wonder if we can get clips like the ones used on them somewhere as some of mine are not attached to the door; the panel is loose on the corners.

Yup, I'm already having issues. I can't work all the way around the panel because I cannot get the door open so I'm having yank from the top and the center; here's to hoping I don't break anything

Good luck, Art. The only thing that should break, if anything at all, is the clips.

I managed to get the panel off but the clips look like crap. Does anyone know where I can get replacements?

I got some from Ford. IIRC they were about 3 bucks apiece.

Im having the same issue with the stuck barn door. How did u fix it once you got the panel off? I would think that you could get the clips from a junkyard right?

Buy 2005 Ford Excursion Parts | FordParts.com
(you'll need the plug-in to view the images there)
below is a screen shot of the barn-doors

Ford-parts.com has lots of this info if you have the patience to search
and find them. Often, that part is obsolete and/or replaced by
something else. But, the pictures are great at showing "HOW"
things are connected and what's behind there.

Take one of the clips to your local auto-parts store.
They typically have a section of trim panel clips and you might
find something that will work.

With the help of misky and fordparts, I was able to find the part number which is W704958-S300 . Now I just hope they are actually in stock.

There is a cable that runs from the handle to the release; for some reason, the cable had worked its way loose from a small indent which holds a portion of the cable and allows for the inner cable to actually pull on the release. Once I inserted the cable back in the indent, the door was operational again. I think of it as being similar to how the brake cable on a bicycle becomes positioned incorrectly and the braking action is affected.

Before I realized this, I opened the door by simply pulling on the cable.
