How much timing advance should I run with todays ethanol fuel?
How much initial?
How much centrical?
How much vacuum?
How much advance at what rpm?
Engine is a 300 6 cyl.
Carburetor is a carter yf.
Distributor is dual vacuum?
Thank You!
Truck runs ok but I think it could run much better with a distributor recurve.
Every engine is different. There are no clearly defined one-size-fits-all numbers. Adjust, drive...adjust again, drive again, etc., until you find what your engine likes.
Yup, and also remember how much better gas was when your carburated 300 was built and the factory spec was established.
I always use the factory spec for adjusting the vacuum advance and check the mechanical with a dial back timing light at the specified rpm. That way you know both of those are working like they should be. A hand held vacuum pump and a good timing light (preferably a digital dial back) are both a must for tuning.
