My 292 is now able to run off of gas but the only down side is its shooting gas out the carb and the truck will not idle without some throttle. The valve adjustment is in the ballpark but not perfect.
i'm not sure if its still the valve adjustment, carb needing to be rebuilt, or some sort of vacuum leak. any suggestions?
It sounds to me as if the needle valve is not sealing in it's seat. Could be some crud is stuck between the needle and seat or the needle tip or seat is worn. As I recall you can purchase just the needle and seat by itself.
There should be a metal tag on the carb with some combination of letters and numbers, write down what they are and go to the parts store. The letters and numbers would also allow the parts guy to get a rebuild kit if you want to go that way. By the way do not lose the metal tag!
I have not worked on a carb in 20 yrs but I have rebuilt more than I can count. So if you have any other questions just ask.
Not familar with what ever carb was installed on the 292 but I had a simular issue on Holley and found the float needle was sticking, ended up rebuilding carb couple weeks ago and have not had problem since.
