I finally got off the fence and ordered the 50 gal Titan tank tonight. Nice deal with 10% off through midnight July 4th, free shipping and and no tax. $1084.14 to my door.
Earlier today I stopped into my Ford dealer to ask if they have done any DTE re-calibrations for the larger fuel tanks and told they had not.
This is when my FTE knowledge kicks in (thanks for all of the posts on the subject) so I share the seven recalibration programming steps saved in my cell phone. Next thing I know a service tech comes up and takes a look at the procedures and says he can do that. Within a few minutes he has my truck hooked up to his laptop with the 8x.xx something IDS version and tells me they can do the calibration.
Epic, I have only you to blame for all this . . . THANK YOU very much for the great video that got me thinking about this back when you first posted it. I will be installing the tank myself, of course.
I'm putting mine in this morning. Plan on spending some time cleaning the interior of the tank.......what a mess. I'll be replacing the fuel filters after the first 50 gal are run through too.
Are they still shipping the mounting straps inside the tank? The paint flaking off poorly painted straps was the source of all of my "shavings" in the tank problems 3 years ago. Dumped bottom filter 1k miles after install just to be safe.

Just curious where you purchased your tank to get the 10% off and free shipping. I looked on Titan's website and didn't see anything.
Looking for what you found and how you cleaned it to help those of us following the same path.
Sure no problem, I'll tell the good, the bad and the crappy. Don't think I'll find crappy but . . . but some things can be mitgated fairly easy but we really shouldn't have too when laying down $1,000+.
I've obviously taken my time moving forward on this sizeable purchase having first heard about the tank with Epic's video post back in November 2010. If I was going to do the mod I wanted the miles/distance to empty to be as correct as possible and that hurdle has been overcome.

Plastic and metal. Used diesel soaked rags then poured some diesel in, sloshed it around and dumped it. I'm sure there's still quite a bit in there but I'll let the filters get it and change them out next weekend.
Overall the install went well. It is a bitch getting to the fittings on the top though
Here's a pic of my fingers after a quick wipe of the tank interior.
