Saw thread about Brazilian Fords, and that reminded me of a story from a mag years back showing a picture of a 73-79 style Ford "suburban" Ford made for the Mexican market. I think it was called an "El Detalle".
I apologize for resurecting such an old post, but...Just saw a picture and a comment about the El Deatlle Mexican Ford. Said it was built in Mexico for the Mexican market. The truck appeared to use the cab and doors from a Crew Cab. The cargo area, sides and roof, were integral with the rest of the truck. Looked like a lengthened version of a Centurion conversion, without the "Bronco bump" in the roof. The picture I saw was of a 2wd 1/2 ton version.
I would be interested in any further info. Anyone know of one of these for sale?
Thanks,
Roger Carter
That truck in the picture is simply a work of art built by north country specialties in Montana www.ncspecialties.com go to "body shop" then to "Picadoor" you will be amazed!!!!
And here I thought some one was going to say like there are thousands of these trucks in mexico and only sale for a few hundred a piece and we could buy them up for parts. Thanks for the dissapointment.
This is just something I’ve heard; I have no real proof, but anyway... I heard that in the 70's in Mexico, ford had 4 door broncos, and Chevy had super cabs. It was some sort of "gentleman’s" agreement. Ford wouldn't make a "suburban" in the US if Chevy didn’t make a super cab. Take that for what it's worth.
Thanks for all the input.
Supercab, thanks for the link to NC Specialties. You are correct, his truck does ook like a work of art.
The picture I referred to in my earlier post is on page 129 in a book titled "Illustrated Buyer's Guide (tm) Ford Pickup Trucks", authored by Paul G. Mclaughlin. The NC Specialties rig is very similar, while at the same time quite different.
