2003 v10 Cruise Control

Well my new Ex is perfect except the cruise control does not work. When I press the button nothing happens not even the dash light. The controls light up fine when the lights come on. Found fuse 24 was bad I replaced that and checked the connections under the hood. When I try the diagnostics nothing happens. Does anyone have any other ideas?

thanks

Start by checking fuses F27 & F34 in the CJB. Then, check the pressure switch on the master cylinder for continuity.

Has the cruise control switch recall been done?

There are two fuses in the harness for the switch on the master cylinder with the corrected harness.
I would check for the recall having been performed.
I would think about changing out the pressure switch itself.

I checked the fuses and they are all good. I also called Ford and they said my X was not included in the recall my master cylinder looks different then the ones in the recall links. I did notice that my brake lights do not come on unless the vehicle is running or key switched to the on position. I always that the brakes came on if the vehicle was running or not for safety reasons. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

Your stop lamps should operate without regard to the ignition switch via CJB fuse F18.

Has this truck had any goofy hack work done on its electrical systems? Aftermarket stuff installed?

The only thing installed is a trailer brake controller and that was before I purchased it.

Well I am finally getting back to the cruise issue on my EX. I replaced the cruise control module and I am stilling unable to enter the cruise control diagnostics. I did find that if I press both on and coast buttons at the same time my horn will go off. So I am guessing the buttons work fine, plus they light up when I turn on my headlights. Is there anyone else out there that might have any ideas?

Sounds very similar to the problem I had when I first purchased my 2004 Ex. Turned out to be a bad Cruise Control switch. You can verify the different voltage levels by placing a DVM on pins 5 & 6 on connector C122. This is the plug attached to the cruise control module.

Press each button individually, you should see different voltages for each. IIRC you should see close to 12VDC when you press the On button. If the On button is the only one that does not show voltage at C122 then you more than likely have a bad button assembly. If you have the redundant control steering wheel then be prepared to spend some $$cash$$ to replace these buttons. I had to buy both the radio and the cruise button assemblies as a package.

Once I took the steering wheel apart and removed the suspect cruise button assembly I found the reason for the problem...the circuit board had a bunch of green corrosion on it and some traces were blown off.

We had the recall done on our Ex, they simply add a fuse inline with the pressure switch on the master cylinder. They don't replace the switch itself.

My CC stopped working on my F350 and our Ex, both times the pressure switch itself was leaking and shorted. The diagnostic procedure did not work in my case when the switch was bad. It's a 5 minute fix and pretty cheap to buy at the dealer.

A few years ago the cruise went out in my 01 Ex. We took it to the dealer because we were about to leave on a cross country road trip and I didn't have time to work on it. They replaced the module under the hood and it still didn't fix it. They then took out the button assembly and found that it was caked up with all sorts of nasty as if someone had spilled soda or some other sticky drink on it. With a new button assembly everything worked fine.

Thanks for all the replies I will test pins 5 and 6 tonight. I don't have a multimeter but I would imagine a test light will do the same function right now. If I am wring I will go and buy one. I have never tracked down electric issues before so I guess I get to learn something new.

I got it fixed. Turned out to be a bad servo. I also found out my cruise dash indicator is out, but the cruise works so I'm not going to complain. Thanks for all the help.
