Loud Whine When Brakes Are Pressed? Cause?

Hi All,

I have recently encountered this whine that happens when my brakes are pressed and gets louder and louder the harder you press. It does it at a stop too so I know it's likely not the actual brakes. Steering also seems to do it a bit...

Has anyone ever had this deal? Could it be the vac pump on the way out?

Thank you,
Beefey

Nope. Its your power steering pump. Check the fluid level. Remember that it uses Mercon ATF not traditional power steering fluid. If the level is good, you can try flushing it but more than likely, the pump is on its way out.

I think I am having the same problem. However my noise is not a squeel or whine but like a low pig grunt. Only happens when stopped or going slow. I can also feel a shaky vibration kind of thing in the steeringwheel and brake when stopped.

Flush the system or replace the pump. Ford states in the repair manual that the steering should not be at full lock for more than 3 seconds at a time or pump damage can occur. So try to avoid that on the new pump.
