Can anyone point me in the right direction where to find a rear bumper for this thing?
I have been looking for replacement bumpers for my truck, but I am having one hell of a time finding any on the internet. Ideally, I would like something a little beefier than what I have right now. Maybe something with a step feel to it. The reasoning for this is 90% utility, but I would also like to put custom tail lights in the bumper. So the rear face of the bumper would need to be big enough to mount at least 4 or 6 inch tail lights in it. And I'd like a bumper that has a spot for the license plate (w/ lighting) as well.
As it stands now, I cannot even find a direct replacement for what the truck currently has. The narrow bumper of the flareside seems to present a problem.
Whip out your measuring tape and hit the parking lots.........
Because of the narrower bed, I suggest a bumper off of a late-model mini truck. There's a flareside I frequently see in my town running around with one mounted.
I'm good with that, but won't it have trouble mounting up if it's not made for this? I don't really want to cut and weld the mounts because I may sell the truck in a decade or two and I'd like to be able to put the original bumper back on should the buyer request it. I don't mind altering the mini truck bumper, though.

Ya don't have to modify nor weld to your rig's frame. Instead, modify the donor's brackets ofr fab up your own. Simple to make. If you are unable to fabricate, make some cardboard templates and have a fabricator make them for ya.
Original bumper? I thought you wanted a different one than what ya got .
A simple custom bumper could be made with two lengths of 2-inch OD, .120-wall square tube with short lengths of tube welded between them.. a double-tube bumper like what Smittybilt offers the Jeep crowd.
Flaresides aren't as popular as stylesides. In fact, I've only seen one in the wrecking yard and it was wearing one of them full width, 75-pound dock bumpers.
If ya want a stocker, here's page 16 of LMC Truck's current catalog:
These bumpers are plenty strong enough! I lost the brakes on my 84 chevy and rearended my ford doin 35 mph! Only bent the bumper slightly. Your bumper seems to sit really low though. You could get a step bumper for a fleet side ford and cut it down and re weld it to fit. Or get some roll cage tubing and make a bumper. Or get a huge peice of C channel to bolt inside your current bumper to stiffen it up. But with any bumper you need to beef up the mounts as well.

I do, but I want to retain the option to put a stock bumper back on it down the road for whatever reason may come up that requires it. That's why I'd rather modify a bumper than the stock bumper mounts on the truck. Thanks for the info on where to get a stock bumper, though. That could come in handy.

35 MPH?!?! That's crazy that it only bent the bumper up a bit. Although, I guess it doesn't surprise me too much. The guy who sold me this truck said some girl in a Focus rear-ended him doing about 15 mph and it really messed up her front end. Look at the back of my truck again and see if you can see any indication of a rear collision. haha.
I imagine any bumper I put on this will be just as sturdy. I'm not looking for something pretty and useless. I'm looking for something tough and decent looking.
