A year after i did them the first time i get to do the rear brakes on my truck again. they are squeaking constantly at low speeds and i get a nice loud squeak when i come to a stop sometimes.
hopefully the brand new drum that i put on is not fubar.
BTW, ~5-6,000 miles on this set.
the right rear shoes were way down a few months back when i checked them trying to figure out why my pedal is soft.
I can't wait!!!!
Oh and for those that don't know Ford's obs "era" brakes SUCK.
Our trucks are essentially the same except i have 3.55 gearing. I had to replace the rear brakes on my truck when I started driving it. They were pretty easy to change and not horribly expensive. Maybe try a different brand of brake parts this time? When I did mine I had a liner fall apart and cost me a tire. I think the brand was parts master. They replaced the shoes at no cost. Not sure if i just got a dud or their quality is that bad. I had no problems with them otherwise. Here are a couple pics

Good thing that tire was already trash anyways I guess, could of been worse.
no abs here as well. almost all the way to the floor and not locking up.
i wish my truck would stop before i got to half way to the floor. crap the first 1/4-1/2 of the pedal travel feels like it does nothing.
I totally agree. But i still have to replace the rear brakes. They take forever to even hit. They are out of adjustment, and i'm sure worn out. I still have my abs and it does work believe it or not.
just so you guys know, the rear shoes that were on the truck when i got it were totally worn down. the shoe material was GONE and the right rear was so bad that the adjuster backed all the way out, jamming itself, resulting in what was left of the shoe going into lathe mode and cutting ~1/4" deep x 3" wide groove into the drum.
surprisingly though i had ZERO squeak at any time from the breaks then.
With my 86, I can push the pedal in half way and it will slow down promptly, but the brakes will ease up, even with the pedal still half way down. I never could lock the rear wheels on dry pavement. I had to really push the pedal just to get it to stop fast. I'm wondering whats going on with my brakes.
Both my 86's and my 96 F250 will lock up all 4 on command, the 350 I haven't driven yet.
The rabs tries to do its thing on the 96 but it is just a joke.
The truck on 44's used to be on 265's with stock brakes, now it has rear discs and will lock up the 44's.
any 88-97 truck ive ever driven (ford) has the best brakes of anything ive ever driven, i love they way they feel and stop. Its actually one of my "to do's" to swap over the 89 vac. booster and master cyl. Our 94 F350 will lock em up with 19.5's and 1500 gallons of water on board.
