Starting issues
Starting issues
2000 2WD 4.6L
I was trouble shooting why the truck will not start after it has run for awhile then sits for about an hour. I was checking the connections on the solenoid switch on the fire wall when my wrench slipped and touched both terminals on the solenoid and the engine starter kicked in. I tightened the connection then tried to start the truck with no luck. so I tried leaving the key in the "ON" position and jumped the two terminals and the truck started. Does this tell me I have a bad solenoid switch?

More probable the ignition switch.
In start position a circuit to the solenoid is completed so it cuts in the starter.
In run, that circuit is not involved.
You just by passed it at the solenoid with the igniton in run.
As soon as the crank sensor detects crank movement the PCM will apply the rest of the ignition and fuel so the motor will start.
Good luck.

Alright, Trying to track down the issue. when key is put in the start position the engine will not turn over I hear the relays making contact under the dash by the steering wheel. With the key in the run postion I can start the truck by jumping the solenoid on the firewall. I believe this is telling me that all circuits are closing allowing the truck to start. Could the solenoid be bad?
The start 'circuit' is not being 'extended' to the start relay.
You already have proven the start relay will function because it was able to close with your shunting action, the same as the start circuit is supposed to do and cranks the motor.
Use voltmeter on the lead coming from the start circuit and see if it is missing.
You can also remove both leads from the start relay and ohm it. If open it's faulty, to answer you question.
Good luck.
