My 03 Excursion (115K miles) has been trouble free until now. I took the truck for a short drive on Saturday, parked it, went to start it on Sunday, and it cranked but wouldn't start. I tried a few times and nothing but cranking. When I turn the key and let the glow plugs cycle, the "check gauges" light and the "battery" light on the dash stay lit. I can't recall if these stay lit when I normally start the truck, but I obviously notice them now. The batteries are new, about 6 months old however, I have only been driving the truck about once every week or two.
Could the batteries have lost enough charge that it won't start? I've read other posts about the FICM, HPOP, etc. but wasn't sure where to start with this. Should I take the batteries for a load test? Have the truck towed to the dealer? Try doing something else myself? I prefer to work on my own vehicles but honestly don't know too much about this engine.
If you are even gona have a snowball chance in Hell at repair a ScanGaugeII is a must
Why do you think Batterys???????did it NOT Crank at all or crank Slowly?????
Can you hear the Fuel pump Buzz under driver door at KOEO
Can you hear the injectors Buzz at KOEO
Don't have anything to scan for codes. The reason I thought batteries was the check gauge and battery light. Yes, it is cranking fine but not starting. What is KOEO? I hear the buzz when waiting for the glow plug light to turn off.
The Dash check Gauges and Battery lights will stay on till truck starts dont worrey
If you have a DVM check the Battery voltage
DVM=Digital Volt Meter
you can also check FICM with a DVM
If you know what your doing a guy can check almost ALL sensor and stuff with a DVM but this where a ScanGaugeII comes in Tons Faster and NO dissasembly to get at things to test
Not sure how I didn't notice this before, but with the KOEO, the oil pressure gauge in the upper left corner of the instrument cluster does not climb. Shouldn't this read full pressure even without starting?
What I meant was I don't have the tool to scan. I'll see about buying one as long as it isn't too expensive.
not buying one is the most expensive decision you can make
with this vehicle. you can't do anything on this engine without
a scanguage II or better.
auto zone. $150 bucks or so. not to sound ugly, but if you are
unwilling to spend that amount to know what's going on with
your vehicle, this is going to be an ugly life experience for you.

Now thats Funney^^^^and I agree
My SGII has saved me thousands figure you catch an Oil cooler plugged or close with the SGII and that might have saved you HeadGaskets Failure and repair so 3-5K depending
I had a no start 2-3weeks ago the SGII pointed me to a HPO system problem with the help of FTE I Knew what to check next came out to be a Bad ICP sensor
The SGII saved me a Tow Bill and Diagnostic Bill so it paid for itself just with this ordeal
A guy on here at the same time as my no start ended up having the same issue as me and his Shop Charge for ICP Sensor and pigtail replacement came to a HUGE $$ 600.00$$ I was only in it 130.00$$ because of SGII and FTE Help
