Tool box....

I was thinking of adding a contractor style job site box to the front of my trailer... the box is ~150# and whatever the contents might end up being (tools, tie downs, spare parts and extra fluids, etc.).... best guess loaded weight will be 300-400 pounds.

Is the only drawback the loss of floor space or is putting that kind of weight near the tongue a really bad idea?

I think the issue here would be what kind of tongue weight you have before adding the tool box.

look on the tongue for weight ratings and look at the jack as well.
