Airaid cold air ram performance filters look like they do a good job, anyone have one ? and what do think. Im hearing mixed messages about even fitting anything other than stock as i know the stock filters have great filtering capabilities. But im regulary under my hood so cleaning my filter every oilchange is no prob. i looked at k&n's two options but didnt real like them,as one sucks in warm air from the engine bay and the other didnt look like it realy uses a good source of cold air. Airaid looks like they have it covered?. Anyone using a filter system they are getting real usable benefits. thanks
You know most of the guys say to keep the stock assy on over a aftermarket.
I myself have a S/B filter and it too gets the air from the engine compartment, have always wondered if there is a benefit to get the intake in front of truck over the warmer air from engine compartment.
Maybe someone here who knows the diff will motivate me to change it if there is a benifit from outside air ????

Look at it this way, the air coming from the engine compartment is hot and gets hotter as the engine warms up. The hot(ter) air is pushed through the IC to cool and be reintroduced into the intake...... kinda defeating the purpose of the IC since you're already starting with hotter air than ambient intake from the front.
When I first bought my truck in 2004 the first thing I bought was an airaid cold air intake....i was so proud of it. I went to the dealer for warranty stuff.....the mechanic I was talking to explained it all too me and I threw the POS in the trash (since I couldn't sell it) and put on the stocker.
Not to mention that if you over oil the filter it can ruin the MAF sensor.
Jez, you'll be hard pressed to find many here who recommend any aftermarket filter set-up. I am waiting on the big brown truck to bring my Riffraff shiny metal cold side CAC tube and boots right now though.
The factory set-up ain't pretty but it filters and flows well and has integrated filter minder with a dash light! I bet someone could make a few bucks selling a properly trimmed and bent piece of stainless to slip over that Donaldson filter.
I bought RiffRaff's boot set in red last year and they are NICE!!!!! Awesome product....they are thicker and more rigid. The tube that comes off the turbine side to the IC always flopped around due to the flimsy boot (s). I even saw someone fabricating a holder that bolts to the alternator to cure this issue. Once I installed these boots from RiffRaff, NO MORE MOVEMENT (some but very little).

Ok Rusty I'm guessin the JEZ means (stupid dummy) put back on the intake pipe.
Still have my complete factory intake as well.
The PITA of getting it back together after cleaning the filter for the S/B is why it's sitting behind my shop.
Pulling it into shop now and going to wrestle it together. Are you saying to put the stocker back in??
Well....it's time for a confession and a recommendation.
I've run an Airaid for a LOT of miles but it's because of my turbo and tuning. I've not had (knock on wood) any issues yet, but I've been very religious about cleaning and sparingly oiling it and careful to keep the MAF clean with MAF cleaner. I don't recommend it for anyone with a stock turbo. There simply isn't any reason. Stick with the STOCK air filter setup. It's MUCH easier to care remove and care for. I have a lid on my airaid to keep hot air out and it makes removal and cleaning a PIA vs. the stock filter.
i agree. our stock air filters (i've heard) can easily handle about 500 HP. they're also cleaner and last longer than the aftermarket ones. the aftermarket ones get dirty real quick..... like me. lol!

Ok stock filter is back in place, I also replaced my ficm and this one doesn't have the buzz flash in it like the one I just pulled out. Not sure which of the two things I did made the exhaust tone quieter?? but it does sound different and it seems to have a little more punch to it.
Thanks for the advice Rusty,Joe,69,CJ,and you too Snuggy.................
