My friend bought a 2004 24 valve complete with stacks, intake and a edge attitude with juice. It seems like a dog to me. I thought it would have more power than it did. It drove well handled well tracked well, but there is no way it could out run my truck. He is using it for a farm truck though so he should be fine. btw he has a 2010 6.4 that is fast as hell!!
Just thought with all the hub bub it would be faster.
I know that my 7.3 is a 2000 and it's 235 horse and 500 torque, and in 2000 the Cummins is only 215 horse and 420 torque from the factory. From what I have read they are heavier also.

They are much lighter. a CCSB dodge is like 6800-7200lbs.. you are looking at 800-1000 lighter than a similar superduty.
The reason that truck is a dog is b/c he's got a crappy edge box. A smarty would wake that truck up.. or EFI live when it comes available for the 03-05 trucks
After owning a few Dodge's in the past...if it's an Automatic, it will feel like a pig regardless of how much power is thrown at it until...you get a real trans and converter behind it, then they become beasts! I did this in my last cummins truck and it felt like it doubled in power. Our stock trans/converters are light years better.

^^^ agreed! Or at least a valve body. The stock 48re is a huge dis-service behind an ISB.
ISB's don't have the best top end but they have a lot of muscle on the bottom of the torque curve with a good trans behind them.
I talked to a man that has owned super duties for years. He bought a dodge duelly. He hauls horse trailers and said that the dodge was a dog compared to his super duties (6.0) but when you hook a horse trailer to that dodge it is night and day difference with the power that dodge has. He also through out that he has a. 99 7.3 that you cannot tear up!
The factory TC's in the dodges really hurt the cummins power band...they stall way high after the motor is done, they live 1600ish stall converters..then they become beasts putting their power to the ground.
where i worked last year they had a 2001 dodge with a 6speed trans, stock. in town i could not keep up with the boom truck, had no power and was slow of the line.
i was disponted with the power from what i had read, i dont think it was any fast then my truck in stock.
I seem to get lead foOt each time I'm around another diesel, yesterday being no exception.
First another 250 jacked up 4 x 4, wanna be Fall Guy looking truck. I stopped at the tollway to pay and he passed me in the EZ tag. Within seconds I was behind him and noticed I was going near 90, in his draft. Hit the gas a bit more and within a few more seconds he was an ant in my rear view mirror.
Then a Dodge with two stacks in the bed. He revved up and sped up once he crept up alongside me from a few paces back, then tried to gun his truck. I think I saw him crying when I decided enough was enough.
