Hi wondering what the best most popular way to not have the SES (ServiceEngineSoon) LIGHT to come on with a MAP sensor code, BECAUSE OF OVERBOOST !!! I am running a micro tuner on the 80 HP setting on an early 99 powerstroke... Saw this on E-bay would this be the trick...thanks Frank
I beleive that is a preset parameter in your pcm. Mine did that, the lamp was on for about 5 seconds then went out. It turns on at about 25 psi of boost. I don't think that can be changed, if it could I would think that the issue would have been adressed in the chip/programmer.
You have two options for controlling the SES light for overboost.
1. 4.7 v Zener diode. The overboost light is set at approximately 24psi, which is a 5 volt imput signal to the MAP sensor. The diode installs in the map sensor wire and shunts off anything over 4.7 volts, thereby eliminating the ses light.
The downside is it might affect other sensors, but none that I ever noticed, and some have reported (including myself) that the diode can slightly limit top end performance by failing to stop limiting the signal when it drops below 4.7v
Total cost for the ZD, less than one dollar.
2. The other option is to install a mechanical limiting device such as a pop off valve or a regulator (Like the one in the posted link) These devices install into the air line to the MAP sensor and prevent the SES light by limiting the actual boost the MAP sensor recieves.
Costs around $20-40 depending on whether you buy one from a dealer, or piece it together yourself.
Well I hate to shoot your theory but I run about 32 lbs of boost (not all the time and mine only comes on with a full throttle 1/4 mile run. But I can hit it on the freeway and run it up to around thirty with no problems.
Not so, I said you are limiting the boost to the MAP sensor, which is exactly what is happening on your truck. 32psi with no light means the MAP sensor is getting less than 24psi input.
These devices install into the air line to the MAP sensor and prevent the SES light by limiting the actual boost the MAP sensor recieves.
