After a complete rebuild of an NP205 tcase (seals, bearings, rear output yoke), there is a small amount of oil that wants to drip from the rear output shaft seal / yoke area. Enough to make a small puddle under the truck. I'm sure this is not normal, is it? Anybody have any suggestions as to why a new seal and yoke would leak? is there something not shimmed correctly internally to allow that output shaft to have excessive movement? The oil is a 50/50 mix of 80/90w gear oil and Lucas gear oil additive.
I always test fit any yoke in the seal before I drive the seal in. Who knows if the right one got in the right box, a quick check is always in order. That being said is the yoke tight ? No up, down, in ,out play ? Are you sure the cases vent isn't clogged up in some way ?
Mark, the seal i'm sure is the correct one. The yoke went into the seal with a good fit which would have slightly stretched the spring in the seal like it should. Pretty sure it's the correct seal. As for yoke movement, there is a slight up, down movement which does concern me. I'm not sure how much is too much movement, probably none would be best. Is there something not shimmed correctly inside? The whole tcase was supposed to have had new bearings installed, but dont' know which ones for sure. I'll check the case vent for obstructions. Thanks
