Hey, I have a 77 hiboy divorced 205, how hard is it to change the front output seal? mines leaking as fast as you can top it up.
is there any tricks to do it, or anything to watch out for ?
Disconnect the d-shaft from yoke, remove yoke from output. (requires a 1&5/16" socket iirc) you'll need to shift the 205 into 4wd to keep the yoke from spinning when you loosened the nut. Yoke should slide right off... if not a gear puller is your friend here! Don't have those kinda friends??? OK , put the u-joint, u-bolts back on the yoke and stick a bar or something through the 2 u-bolts and pull or tap the yoke off the output. The old seal will come out with a small pry bar or large screwdriver if you don't have a seal puller. Be sure to get PN# off of old seal and inspect the yoke where the seal rides. Coat the new seal (rubber area) with gear oil and some like to put a light skim of rtv around the outside of the seal (metal area) as extra protection if seal housings might be worn a little. The new seal taps right in...get it started square then use a clean block of wood (2×4) placed over the seal to prevent damage and tap it in flush with seal housing. I don't remember the yoke torque specks for reassembly...thinking 200-220 ft.lbs. ???

Reason: added info
Glad to help. If the seals being a pain to get out, the housing could be removed to allow access from the opposite side...but that would be breaking another seal...
