I see plenty of 300 fuel inj motors out there for sale, so I was thinking, are the motor mounts and bell housing the same as the carb models?, I just may go more modern in the old '82.
Yes. There are VERY few differences between the EFI and carb'd 300s. The blocks are nearly identical except that the EFI block doesn't have a provision for a mechanical fuel pump. The head has different shaped combustion chambers, and it has 3 extra bolt holes for the int/exh manifolds. That's about it.
If you do the swap, you'll need a higher PSI fuel pump, and be sure to look for one that has a manual transmission so that the onboard computer isn't looking for signals from the automatic.
IIRC, the EFI pistons are lower c.r. than the non efi years. If that bit of info turns out to be true, then if you use a non efi head, the c.r. would be even lower?
I might just run the 240 for a while or just go ahead and swap a few parts bump it up to 300, using the 240 head and some other goodies.
Heck while the motor is out I'll freshen it up under the hood.
