I've lurking around for a while and now really confused on programers for my new to me truck. If I could get a little direction from the top dawgs that would great.
What reasons r u wanting to get a programmer for ? What do u use ur truck for ? What mods have been done to the truck? Do u have any gauges ??
I had a bullydog bc it came with the truck. Took it off because it made the trans shift very very hard when I mashed the go pedal kinda hard. Now have a SCT tuner an love it.
Bullydog will make it run like a raped ape but cause u tranny troubles bc it doesn't really tune the trans shifts. An ur EGT will get high really quick.
SCT canned tunes won't run like the bullydog tunes will but u can get custom tunes with the SCT. With bullydog u can't. SCT tunes motor an trans an has way not options than the bullydog.
I'm my opinion I would only getting a SCT tuner. But u also need some gauges to so u can monitor ur engine an know what it's doin. Scangauge II is a great one to start with.
Well the truck seems to run fine around town and the Fx4 ran well through some dry sand at the beach. I'll tow the boat to Choke this weekend, so we'll see how she does towing.
I read that a programmer will give you more Horse Power and torque better for towing and just running fast. I was told to high of a program could blow out head gaskets to be careful.
SCT looks like a good turner it's mentioned quite often. Wouldn't know any thing about custom tuning.
