I have to replace the speedometer in my 96 F150. I picked up a cluster from the local salvage yard. I was wondering if it was possible from me to switch the original odometer over so I can keep the original mileage in tact. All info is appreciated!

Unfortunately no. They are hardwired into the PSOM. You can get one with less miles on it and do this to run it up:1983 Ford Bronco PSOM picture | SuperMotors.net Not exactly sure what hes doing but you can contact him through his profile on that site. Or you can go to Ford and have one programmed to match your miles. Why do you have to replace the speedometer?

Sure just move your old PSOM to the new cluster.
I take it is the same year cluster and you just want a tachometer.
I took the PSOM out of my 1994 F53 cluster and put it in a 1992 F-series truck cluster to get a tachometer in the F53 and I kept my old mileage for the F53.
The Speedometer and the Odometer has nothing to do with keeping the mileage. It is keep inside the PSOM.
You will have to remove the cluster from the front and then take it all apart to get to the PSOM. The speedometer plugs into the PSOM with four large pins. There is a ribbon cable that also plugs into the PSOM and goes to the Odometer.
Do not forget to the the two screws out that hold the transmission indicator in before you pull the cluster out. There are also three plugs on the back of cluster that need to be unplugged.
Have you checked all the fuses? I just got a 92 F150 from a friend who gave up on it(REBUILT ENGINE AND E4OD!!) when it still would not shift properly.
Short story is the PSOM was dead and with out it working the ECU will not shift the tranny properly. I found fuse #8(F-150 truck dome light fuse) bad due to a shorted dome light assy.
With your ZF5 manual you would not have any shifting issues like the E4od would have.
Thanks for all the replies! I was wondering if I could swap swap the odometer over to keep the original miles with the truck. I am replacing the speedometer because I am tired of watching it bounce all over the place like a cracked out squirrel. Last fall I rebuilt the rear end because it got some water in it and wiped out all the bearings etc. In the process of setting up the gears I apparently nicked up a few of the teeth on the tone ring. Unware of this I got everything set up and put back to together. The first trip out the speedometer was going nuts and the ABS kept acting up. Long story short I swapped out the tone ring and the ABS problem went away, but the speedo continued to act up. So I replaced the VSS and the problem still exists, the next thing in line to change is the speedometer. No shifting issues here because I have a manual trans, but I cannot use cruise control because the truck starts bucking like crazy. Sounds like a fairly easy procedure, kinda bummed about not being able to swap over the odometer. Can't have everything you want, it'll be nice to be able to use cruise control again. Thanks again guys!

Well the odometer has nothing to do with the miles it reads out.
The speedometer is more than likely OK too.
The PSOM is sending bad information to the speed control and the speedometer.
This may still be a rear end problem as if the PSOM does not get a good AC voltage generated from the VSS then it will do what you are saying. You need to check the AC voltage coming from the rear end under the hood with the rear wheels up on jacks. Use a scope if you have one to look at the AC voltage.
The miles on your truck are keep inside the PSOM so if you change the PSOM the odometer will read out what ever miles are in the PSOM..
I do not know if this will work on yours, but my 1993 the speedo was jumping all over the place after I put a used rear end in it. I put a new vss and it got worse. I put the old vss back in and disconnected the rear abs black box behind the glove compartment by the heater core and it stopped jumping around and I can use cruise control again.
