One of the items I needed to do on my truck was to repair and replace the gauges and speedometer. Last month I was lucky to find someone on Craigslist selling an instrument cluster from a 59 F100 because he was replacing his with a Dakota Digital instrument system. Anyhow, his speedometer was in better working condition, so I am going to use it. The only issue I had was that his odometer had over almost 30K more miles on it compared to mine. So I wanted to change to the odometer.
Before resetting the odometer
I was talking about this situation at my neighbor's BBQ and my neighbor's uncle, a guy in his 70s said he and his friends used to rollback odometers when they were younger rather frequently. He said it was easy to do and doesn't take long once the speedometer is out of the dash. I jokingly said let's do it, I have it on my bench now. Sure enough we walked over to my garage. He showed me the clip that holds the odometer in and then he removed it and started turning back the miles. He was done in less than 5 minutes and now I know how to do it if I ever need to.
After setting back the odometer
Anyway, that was one of the best BBQ's of the summer for me.
