Ok well Friday I'm tackling my first engine and transmission swap. I have every thing that I need cooling lines, radiator, mounts, ect. When you guys do a motor/transmission swap, what is the first things you do? And what is the the best route to take?
Take lots and lots of pictures, what seems like something easily remembered may not be in a few hours/days. Be sure you unhook all grounds. Soak all bolts in PB. If I do an engine/trans combo I just go ahead and pull the whole front clip so I don't have to worry about getting the chains angled just right. If you have a taller truck, let the air out of the tires, makes the wrenching easier.
make sure you do remove the rad. one of the firt thing. letting the air out of the tire is also very nice,
Before you take out anything, I mean any components, take a picture.
I used a door as a table, every bolt / thing I remove i put on the table from left to right.
(i used cheap plastic container from dollar store) write with a marker on it. (ie water pump)
That sounds like a good idea being it is my first engine/transmission swap. Thank you. Also would it be best if I buy different drive shafts or have mine shortened/lengthened?
Ok when you say to take off the whole front clip you mean like fenders, core support, and such?
Fenders, grille and hood primarily...not a necessity, but I like having it wide open.

Why do you need to do anything with the shafts??? Different engine/tranny combo??? If so, I'd shorten if applicable, but I never liked adding length to a dshaft...so for the couple hundred, I'd just have a new one built.

Yea I'm in the process of the swap i have the old motor, tranny and t-case out. I'm putting in a 400M and a C6 so I think I will need to shorten the back drive shaft.
