4x4 problems
hello nice people. I have a 08 f 250 diesel. since bought the truck, has experienced problems when trying to disengage 4x4 low or high. It only happens after using the 4x4 under big forces. (Pulling the rv in dirt roads). The symptoms are it has trouble to disengage 4x4. Once it disengage, it looses traction from all 4 wheels. I put it in reverse or drive and there is no traction. Instead there is metal grinding noise coming out from the transfer case. Turned of the truck and regain the rear wheel traction. Finally this week happened again. this was the worse time that happens. I try to engage the 4x4 and never hook the front wheels. I put it in 4x4 low and it was in low, but only the rear tires, the front ones didn't have traction. The same happened in 4x4 hi, only rear tires had traction. When I put it in 4x2 it did loose traction in all wheels. It grind in the transfer case badly. I had allot of trouble to gain traction at the rear wheels. I'm pretty sure is the transfer case. Is it difficult to fix the transfer case. Is it expensive to rebuild it. I wait for your advises. Thanks to all you.
