I have a 1983 Ford Bronco with a 300 6 in it. For the past week I have been having problems with the carb (Carter YFA 1 bbl.) When I start it up everything is fine for about 2 minutes. Then gas starts leaking heavily out of the middle area of the carb over the manifold. I turn off the engine and it continues to slowly drip out of the front and back areas of the carb. I cannot pinpoint where the leak is coming from or what is causing the leak. I have installed new gaskets and fuel filter and I have tightened up every bolt and screw but it continues to leak. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be causing this? Thanks.
you say you replaced all the gaskets. did the leak come after the gasket replacement? if it did i would think your floatlevel is set to high. when the engine is cold the choke is on which uses more fuel maybe enough to keep the fuel in the bowl low enough not to leak then after 2 minutes the choke opns and the fuel leve rises and leaks out. just a stupid thought but you never know.
Hello. The problem started before I replaced the gaskets, ran fine for a few minutes after replacement, and then started pouring out fuel like before.
I replaced all the gaskets, Low speed jet, jet metering rod, weight, and pump diaphragm assembly. I did not replace the needle. I also checked the float thinking it may have a hole in it, but the float is fine. Thanks for your reply and help.
