Bring it to "another" more reputable shop, where they also sell new systems.
Tell them you'll by their laptop, ( pic one out, stay away from HP),
if they can clone your hard drive to the new system.

Nope, back-burner, hate to say.
I've pretty much given up on taking apart to swap the boards.
Tried bidding and lost a few whole computers on eBay.
Still trying to find a good used one to swap in my hard drive and give that a shot.
Yearly family vacation (actually just a long weekend) coming up so the laptop will get attention when I get back.

my 2 cents.. If you do not want to reinstall windows and software when moving a boot drive from one pc to another, then use Acronis True Image. Create an image, then boot new pc, with replaced hard drive, with acronis cd in drive and do a Universal Restore.
