Okay, I put a Ford thermostat in it and there are no changes. It still gets hot.Could something be blocked off in my engine?Maybe what seems like a good water pump is bad, but I really think there is something that is blocked in the oil cooler or the block. How could I fix this?
...my thermostat is the long stem but it still doesn't touch that part on the water pump that should touch the thermostat...
I don't know what you mean here.
For reference, here is a picture of my old thermostat and water pump combination and my new thermostat and water pump combination.
Has anyone been able to tell if the OP's issue started before or after his initial thermostat replacement? Inductive reasoning would suggest that he probably replaced the thermostat in an attempt to cure the overheating issue, but I can't find where it says one way or the other. It's sort of important with troubleshooting this to know.
See, if it was going on before he replaced the thermostat, then he's effectively eliminated the thermostat as a possible cause of the problem. However, if he replaced the thermostat and the issue arose only after the replacement, that would suggest that the thermostat is the cause here.
My needle has never passed the "N" of Normal under any circumstance of towing and plowing. I would suggest replacing the Tstat AND the overfill cap with a new one fron AutoZone as it could be losing its pressurization and lowering the boiling point.
Same here... the hottest I have ever seen it, even with 110+ ambient and AC going full blast, was the very first part of the N in normal.

EDT: note that I run empty most of the time... sometimes some steel in the bed...
Ok my radiator seems to flow very well but my water pump doesn't seem to be pumping very much water I am pretty sure that is my problem now at least I'm hoping it is and that's why if I drive it nice and slow and don't go over 50 mph it won't get that hot but if i drive hard at all or 70 on the interstate it gets very hot could that be my issue
