Hey y'all I'm needing help, I'm having alot of problems out of my 96.Used this site alot in the past, but just recently became a member so bear with me. The biggest problem I'm having is that the engine is getting way too hot, in a short amount of driving. The coolant is not running through system, haven't pin pointed where exactly it's coming from yet. I'm thinking near the thermostat area. Which makes some sense, replaced water pump and thermostat a few weeks ago and when I filled it up with coolant some came out of the thermostat. But stopped leaking within a minute. And I haven't seen it leak any coolant until the last couple days or so. But it did feel like the truck was still running hot after I replaced water pump, just gotten way worse now. Oh and my gauge in the truck never goes over the O in normal. I'm going to pull thermostat out and scape the rvt sealant and put a gasket in it, but I'm just not sure that's going to solve my problems. Any advice would be awesome. Like I said the truck has alot more problems than that, that's just the main one. Thanks
For starters-
use a gasket-
make sure thermostat is in the correct direction
make sure thermostat didn't shift inside housing while installing it
5.0 thermostat bolts need to be thread sealed
burp the air out of the cooling system by running w/ rad cap off and rad slightly elevated in relation to the truck
heater hoses should both be getting hot while truck is operating
How are you determining that your engine is getting too hot if your gauge never goes over "O" .
Feelings are not always an accurate way to determine something like this.

Couldn’t agree more. If it isn’t actually overheating as in boiling over how hot is it really getting? Was it overheating before the pump replacement? Could you have put on a regular rotation pump ( V belt ) instead of a reverse rotation for the serpentine belt?
How do you know the coolant isn’t running through the system? Are you watching the radiator with the cap off and not seeing any flow when warm?
