Ok my 96 powerstroke is gettin hot I don't know what the deal is i just put a new thermostat in it and it is the longer one for the 96 but it gets hot when i get on the interstate or pull something and my thermostat is the long stem but it still doesn't touch that part on the water pump that should touch the thermostat what should I do
Are you sure you got the correct one for your truck ? If you did it might be time for a new rad....unless the water pump is not pumping like it should or you have alot of crap in your system ..when was the last time you tested your coolant with the strips ? could be ratio is off and DCA is not right too....
I got the tstat from auto zone and I have flushed the radiator and the water pump is good it will go all the way to the end of normal but its a idiot gauge so that don't mean much and i can hear the fluid boil in the resovior
Mine normally runs around the N on NORMAL. Like some have said, if the Tstat is not motorcraft brand you really should switch it. I went thru 3 different brands that NONE worked right till I put one from Ford in it.
Ok guys I was cruising on the interstate today and it goes all the way up to the a on the normAl is that too hot or am i ok
I have the 203 stat and the needle in "normal" is between r-m when I'm at 200 degrees. Before 203 stat it ran between n-o and I was at 170 degrees. I would say needle pointing at the "A" is to hot, probably running 240-250 degrees, wag.
My needle has never passed the "N" of Normal under any circumstance of towing and plowing. I would suggest replacing the Tstat AND the overfill cap with a new one fron AutoZone as it could be losing its pressurization and lowering the boiling point.
Wow never new others trucks were running so low. Mine litterally sits dead smack in the middle of the gauge, and on a hard pull it will rise a bit above, but never too far. For you guys running down at the N how do you ever get heat out of your motor for the heater? I know my bosses trucks run down there in the winter and it will take 20 miles till the thing blows semi warm heat and it never gets hot enough to even really heat the cab in the dead of winter.
I have replaced my Tstat and coolant about 4x's ( always Motorcraft) and it never reaches over the N of normal. In the early years I remember getting heat quite quickly and very hot but for many years now it been taking about 15 minutes to get hot heat. Dont know what really changed but I still drive in the wintertime with the window down, heat blasting and the music a singin' !
