Ok guys this weekend working on a motorcycle in addition to the truck. The question is - does it make any difference in the insert brands from one manufacturer to another ? Had one supplier that sells metric only say no, but I certainly do not want any problems ..... Heli coil is the brand for this particular size and pitch that I am using ....
Ok, thanks guys. If heli coil has better success, I'll go with them, especially in a motorcycle cam shaft retainer application .... It's certainly worth a couple extra bucks if indeed it works better .....
I guess I've used them all- I own a machine shop, and care more about quality than price. The Chrislynn inserts are very good, I've always seen Recoil as the "bargain" brand, Keenserts, well, they're awesome, but you have to drill out the receiving hole bigger, which I don't think you want to do here. The "bottom line" is, I think any of them will work well if you install them correctly. Depending on size, if you don't have a good prewinder they can be a b@#$ to get in, especially the smaller ones- Take your time and make sure the hole is clean of any fod, a small chamfer on the bore prior to tapping will help you with starting the insert.
Thanks guys, just last nite finished tapping and inserting coils ended up using Heli coil and stacking 2 of them. Looking forward to getting this part to the machinist for the line bore.
