Strange ECT EOT delta

I just got my SCT tuner in today and im loving the power and datalogging capabilities so far. Earlier today i was monitoring the delta and it was no more than 6 degrees. I shut the truck off for a bout two hours, get back in to head home and started checking the data as i went home. The ECT and EOT both started at 150, the coolant temp rose a little slower than the oil temp. Weird thing is the ECT stopped at 172 and didnt rise any more, while the EOT climbed to 200-201. I watched the temps all the way home doing 70 mph and they stayed at 172 and 201. This has me worried because earlier in the day my EOT was 202-206 and ECT was 199-202.

Could my thermostat be bad? This is my only theory to explain the weird and ranging temps.

any help is appreciated thanks.

**It was 95 degrees outside, probably 70-80% humidity

Lakewood,
Sounds like my experience. My truck liked to hover around 170ish
Replaced the T-stat. Now I am seeing 190F for ECT and getting
about a 6F delta. It also seems to warm up a bit faster now.
I picked up my replacement at Fugate Ford in Enumclaw WA and expected
to pay a bit more buy I got it for only $29.00 Not bad it came with the
T-stat, housing and gasket. The parts guy gave me the box and I looked in
and asked if he had the right price because I was thing that with the housing
and gasket should of been more. I like that type of surprise

Just my thought, but I would lean toward a bad coolant temp sender first. I can't understand how the oil temp could get that high if the coolant is only 170*.

I agree with Steve. Try switching the ECT and EOT sending units (they are identical) before you replace the thermostat. With 95* ambient temps the ECT should easily go to 190+ whether the thermostat is good or bad. My truck will go to 178* at 30* ambient with a bad thermostat very easily.

You can see them in these pics:

The coolant sensor is #4 in the first pic:

The oil sensor sits right beside the filter:

I replaced my thermostat about 6 months ago. Now when I drive my EX after a cold start with even fluid temps, my ECT delta leads by 15 degrees until EOT crosses over at 182-184. Anyone else watch there warm up delta? Just wondering.

My eot Passes the ect at 186. While warming up they are 12* apart, but my oil temp is 2* warmer than the ect after a cold soak. It seems all i do while driving is watch my deltas. The wife will say "hey, you see that"?, i say "yeah, sure".

Lakewood,
You have a SGII? Check the temps after cold soak of at least 10Hrs
that way temps are stable. Both EOT & ECT should be the same
before you start.
That part you showed looked like the right one and that price is not bad.
I used my truck to search @ Tousley Ford Parts Depot
2006 FORD F-350 SUPER DUTY Parts - Tousley Ford Parts Depot $20.90 + shipping not bad price.
You could also have one shipped from my guy @
Fugate Ford in Enumclaw WA Ford Mazda dealership directions: Puyallup Tacoma Kent | FugateFord
I am sure that they will ship. The parts guy told me to tell them
what the price I had from other dealships and they would try to meet or
beat it.
Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Sean
