Help with throttle issue!

I have towed many trailers with my 06 350 with the 6.0 and have never had an issue. But this past weekend I was pulling my 28' enclosed race car trailer and as I was driving down the intersate all of a sudden I lost all of my throttle response and a wrench light came on. When I consulted my manual it said its a fail safe mode that allows you to limp home. I didn't read this until about an hr later down the road. The guages all were where they should be and once I was able to get off the interstate and stop at a gas station I shut the truck off and gave it a look over. I couldn't find anything wrong so I started the truck back up and the light went off and I had my throttle back! It then ran fine the rest of the way to my hotel but then did it again after I was back on my way to the track. Same deal shut the truck off it goes away. It ran fine the rest of the weekend empty and when I hooked back up to the trailer I drove all the way home with no problem. Any information on what caused this and what I should do about it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

TPS is in the pedal assembly, you should have a code for it.It is an easy fix two bolts IIRC and cheap unless you have adjustable pedals.

Thanks for the response! Now I have another question! I don't have the adjustable pedal so is the sensor inside the white box on the side of my pedal assembly? What do I get from the parts department the tps sensor?

I just called my local ford parts department and they told me that there isn't a tps sensor in my truck. They said that ford did away with that sensor in 03 or 04. My truck is an 06. Any more ideas on what caused this to happen? The light that came on was the electronic throttle control.

I would scan truck for codes (it will have at least one). That will get you started in the right direction. It could be a couple of different things. If you have had work done at the dealer, your truck may have the latest flash that monitors coolant temp and oil temp difference. You would want to know if thats happening. Your truck would act just as you described if the spread got too high. Also, factory gauges aren't so great in a situation like that. You might want to consider a ScanGauge or Insight or somthing to keep an eye on things.

It's likely not the problem, but i think you were asking about a APS (accelerator position sensor) instead of TPS.

It could have also went into limp mode due to too much boost. My truck was done that a couple of times while pulling steep grades in the mountains.

Get a new dealer, though it is called the AP sensor on the 6.0 it does the same job as the TPS. Codes would make sure this is the issue.Page 50: Electrical Components

Where whould you suggest I get the part from? My parts dealer is still lost on the AP Sensor. I wish I had a code to give but I didn't have my code reader with me when the light was triggered. And now under normal driving it hasn't tripped the light. A local ford mechanic said it could be the center of my turbo going bad?? Any ideas on what that means?

Code will still be there if you haven't disconnected batteries or cleared it with a scanner.

Isnt the ap sensor basically mean to replace the entire pedal assembly?

I haven't done either. I'll plug my reader into the truck when I get home tonight and see what shows up. Thanks!

Yup, no throttle cable. It's " fly by wire" so to speak. It also has 3 circuits so it's unlikely to suddenly fail completely.

Seems like a jump to a conclusion.

The green wrench light means a code has been set. It could have been caused by a lot of things. I've yet to ever see a confirmation that Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor codes set a light at all. It could be an over boost condition. It could be a ECT/EOT differential condition. It could be a lot of things.

Without getting the code, it's all just guessing.

P0299 appears to be over/under boost. P0234 is over boost.

I would suspect based on those two codes, that for some reason you over boosted enough to trigger the wrench light and the limp mode. You probably have sticking turbo vanes and you turbo needs cleaned.

A less likely possibility is that you have a bad MAP sensor or a wire chafing issue to that sensor. But I would lean towards the sticking turbo.
