I'm having some trouble getting decent coolant for my '95 PSD. The napa guys are being 'tards and I really have nowhere else to go besides Tractor Supply. They have this;
That's what a lot of guys are running. I think you're good to go. Just get a bottle of test strips from NAPA and test the SCA levels when you're done, and then every few months after that to be sure you're still in the good.
Thanks again. Its so tough finding this stuff where I live and the Napa here wont even order the "kool" additive because they say if a customer doesn't come get it that they are stuck with it. I hate them so much.
Have them order it then. If you pre-pay for it they're not stuck with it. I just used regular Prestone green antifreeze then added the "NAPA Kool" SCA additive to it to bring it up to the proper levels. But the Fleet Charge is good stuff too from what I hear. The NAPA Kool additive is what you will need to maintain the charge as it supposedly breaks down over time and needs to be "topped off" from time to time.
The Napa Heavy duty coolant is made by the same company as Fleet Charge and is the same formulation. The only difference is the color of the coolant. As far as I could tell anyway.
Nate, do you feel its necessary to test the Fleet Charge, that is already pre loaded, right away after you put it in? I always heard to just check it after a year.
Glenn, I don't know if it would be completely necessary to test it with all new coolant but I have a bottle of strips with an expiration date on them so I tend to check it whenever I think of it. I would imagine you're fine with a complete flush and fill, but I tend to check it anyway just for my own peace of mind. I have had some weird colors develop on those test strips in the past too, but usually it is because the SCA or coolant levels are out of the intended test range of the strips.
Ya, you probably heard me crying about this before, the test strips don't work for me. They are either expired or I have the wrong coolant or I need a new pair of reading glasss. Probably the latter! I just change it once a year, probably a big waste of money! LOL
