I was wondering what kind of distributor i should run a vacuum or mechanical advance? It is a moderately built 460 and i plan on running all new mallory ignition and was wonder which one to get. I drive the truck daily (But short distances) and i also plan to pull it at some tractor pulls as well. thanks for the info
78 Swamp Donkey.........Give us more details about your engine and what transmission you are useing? A moderately built engine could mean a whole lot of things.
Sorry, it is bored .030 over with speed pro pistons, a .519 lift/270 duration comp cam, edelbrock performer RPM intake with a 750 carb. 10:1 compresion, all new valvetrain parts. It has an auto at this moment but will soon be a 4 speed. I planing on buying the mallory hyfire VI-AL box and Distributor
Considering that you plan on going to a manual tranny, I'd go with the mechanical advance if it were mine. You get much more control of the advance curve.
That's just me though. I've had more bad luck with vacuum advance dizzys than anybody I know. I REALLY dislike them.
Mallory products are fine, but never have cared for their dizzy. I've always thought the MSD units were nicer made. I have a spare MSD 8580 dizzy that is new but not in a box if anyone might need it...
