Hi,
I just got back from my first towing experience in my 87 f250 with a 460 and 3spd auto. The tow out was fine except for the headwind. but my trip back I started having a hesitation, or missfiring when going up hills. The truck was running fine on the flats, but as soon as I got to hills it would sputter at what seemed like randon intervals....

Any ideas on what to check? could it be a bad tank of gas?

Fuel filter, then plugs/plug wires....good luck!!

I forgot to mention I did new plugs / wires / Cap / Rotor before the problem happened, could one of the wires be bad?

 

my 89 460 used to do that even to the point of a popping/backfire. i changed the fuel filter only. and it cured my sick 460.

 

If it was cool/cold outside you carb could have been freezing up. It will make the motor blow a little black smoke.
