i have been searching this website for a few hours now and have not found a problem the same as what i am currently experiencing.
The headlights work fine but every now and then (lately every time i drive it at night) the headlights just turn off and then return after a few moments.. i loose the parking, headlights, high beam and also the spotlights.
A few scary moments driving to work at night i give you the big tip.
So... i am going to pull the switch out and investigate the female plug as many have mentioned previously in this forum, and investigate the headlight relay modification.
Is this heading in the right direction blaming the plug to the switch mechanism? can the plug be repaired if found to be the problem? where would i find a new one to replace the old?
Can someone direct me in finding the correct way of doing this relay wiring mod?
I would say you are heading in the right direction with your diagnosis.. The headlight switches are known for having the thermal breaker go sour (weak) just pop in a new switch, and check the plug as you mentioned if it looks like it has been hot grab one at the parts store when you get your switch.
The relay mod takes a lot of load off of the switch and results in brighter lights, so it is a good mod..
Well written, and i am able to do that with almost everything at home already.
Thanks guys
one last question...
is the 1986 the same switch as the 1989.. cant find an 89 one anywhere.. pretty sure it would be 87 - 91?
looks similar. where do you find em.. in australia it is a bit harder
