Headlight Problem WTF

ok so i have a problem with my headlights and now i can drive at night and i got pulled over twice because of it somone please help never had this problem before.

the past couple weeks i will be driving and my headlights will start flashing and then go out. then i will pull the switch in and out a couple times so they will come on but now its to the point were i pretty much have to hold the headlight lever on the steering collume forword so they wont go out. It got worse tonight though i go and start my truck up and they were really dim and flashing and from inside the cab i smell a really strong burning smell but cant smell it in the motor bay? what the hell is going on I mean i cant use my headlights beacause they keep going out even when they stay on for a few there dim as hell. Any guidence would be awsome. Its a 94 f350 idi

the headlight dimmer switch is over loaded and is cooking the switch.your harness and the switch are both replaceable.but one thing i can tell you to do that i did that made a huge difference is running your headlights through relays with this mod Whiter Whites, Brighter Brights .: Articles

Sounds like another victum of a ford headlight switch and in your case possibly a dimmer switch as well. First off your going to have to pull that headlight switch out and see if there is any hot or burn marks on it or in the plug. Then I would pull the steering wheel and have a look at that dimmer switch... same thing hot or burned looking and it needs replaced! Replace one or both and then do the relay mod so it never happens again!
Check out this article.

the germans can think up some odd things, my Audi's headlights run though the car's computer and when bulbs are getting weak it will shut them off till they cool down then allow them to come back on. scary the first few times it happens. also way off topic but though i would add as not only ford does weird things with headlights oviously.

And where would be the fun in that? Also remember the most important thing about violence - if it don't solve all your problems you simply ain't using enough of it

Ford and everyone else - wonder how much of that new Jeep Grand Cherokee they advertise so hard as being US-made is actually imported from say India...

before i sold my 01 f250 i had to rewire the headlights dashlights and tail lights

dealer told me that all of the lights were wired through some kind of control module and they wanted over 200 for the module so i just rewired wired and bypassed it

You had an LCM (Lights Control Module) or a BCM (Body Control Module) - first one is the more simple version that controls just lights, the BCM is the big evil mother that keeps track of pretty much everything that is not engine, powertrain, or brakes. LCMs came about in the late '90s IIRC, so they've been in use for quite a while now...

yes knew people that worked for GM that it was their job to take new cars out and see what "didn't break" and go back and redesign it so it would not last as long. sure this happens with them all now.
