Alright huggy bear what parts are you planning on getting from those people. If your truck is a 99 you have forged rods and will be good until around 400-450 rwhp. Give or take some people have luck some have none. What are you going to be doing with your truck, this will help everyone help you
i think it will be my daily, with towing and hot rodding thrown in.. 'corse with 500hp ANY driving will be hot rodding. its our tow haul rig now. i can get alot of things at wholesale price if not cheaper.
definatley want a DP tuner, with a few different tunes. stock, 60, 100, 140, smoke, high idle,, its gonna be fun thats for sure.... at what point would i have to worry about blowing heads with boost? and would a compressor wheel upgrade be as effective as a turbo?
Reccomend head studs at 40psi. To me a smoke tune is fun for here and there playing around but when you run around town smoking everyone out it just makes the diesel world look like a holes and your self look like a jackass. Just my .02
I don't think Jody even wrote a smoke tune - DP is dedicated to protecting the truck. On my truck; 60e is very economical and clean, 80e is an aggressive road tune I can run on all day if I choose (with a little coal), 80T has a little more oomph than the 80e, but it has a towing behavior. I could be wrong on this, but it's my understanding anything over an 80 HP tune isn't really for daily driving - they can get things a bit hot over time.
The 140 aggressive is/was DPs smoke tune, they stopped making it to help clean up the air. They made 2 different 140 tunes the aggressive and the other one that I cant think of the name of. They were the same tune but the only difference is that Jody added more fuel down low in the rpms. The smoke tune was never intended as being a DD tune.
I hope that helped clear that up for you guys
A compressor wheel upgrade would be nothing compared to a turbo. If you want 500 hp the stock turbo wont support it anyways and youll just be over spinning the turbo anyways no matter what you wanted to do with the stock turbo
Here are my power adding mods that got me over 400 HP:
200/80 hybrids (wish I had gone 200/100 stage 2s), Adrenaline HPOP (now running a T500), 38R, AIS, 4" exhaust with muffler and DP live tuning. Dynoed at over 450+ rwhp (dyno actually said 486 but that was a bit questionable), 885 lb/ft of torque. Wouldn't take but some 250/100 stage 2s and the right tuning to get 500/1000. But I'm not going there.
I was shooting for 401. Not 399 or 400, but 401 so I could say I had over 400 RWHP. I went a little past my target.
no im not gonna be driving it when its smoking like a locomotive, it would just be to play with. i dont even know when....... it smokes a bit as it is and it a little more would still be fine. even i dont like the trucks that cause an eclipse,,,,, just enough is enough..
i wouldnt run the agressive tunes all the time either, just when i want to race someone, or showoff
60-80e would be fine to run daily,,, thats why i want a chip that i can shift on the fly....
high idle and no start would be useful so theyd be on there too.
how many tunes are on an F5 chip?
yea i just want about what you got PaysonPSD,, but if i get to 500/1000 thatd be great!
With the right tuning you can drive in any tunes. I have BTS tunes and mine stays in the 100hp setting and there is not smoke unless I mash on it or lug the engine
