Darksider Questions

Hello ALL,

Heres the breakdown. Recently put a 1976 Pontiac firebird Formula front clip under my 1955 F100. I "had" a 400SBC in it, until it had catostrophic failure. I had stock exhaust manifolds. I had to weld the motor mounts a little forward of where stock was, due to the dist hitting the firewall. I have since pulled the ruined 400, and am having a 383 stroker built.

Can anyone recommend headers that will work for me. The problem is that because the motor mounts are mounted forward of stock, most header applications come down and hit the control arm. I need headers that really dont "Drop" until after the third port. I am fairly new here and havent figured out how to do pics yet. I am hoping there is someone out there that has a similar set up to me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

You might take a look at Patriot Clipsters. I'm using a Chevelle frame clip with a sbc and I've shifted my motor mounts locations also and the Clipsters still worked even after I moved from the stock location. I thought I had some close-up shots of the headers installed but these are the best I have at the moment.

I'm sure some others will be along shortly to tell you to put it back all Ford and you won't have those problems. Just goes with the territory that you venture into.

If the only problem previously was the distributor hitting the firewall, it might be easier and cheaper to modify the firewall, move engine back where it belongs, and use standard Camaro headers. A smaller dizzy might also be an option if what you had a problem with before was the giant HEI unit. There's a tiny Delco one available, as well as good units from MSD, etc.

You might take a look at Sanderson headers. They worked great on my 48 with a 351M and cleared the crossmember and steering.
