another thing to check, count the number of teeth on the fly wheel from the C4 to C6.

It sounds like something is misaligned. Did you line up the torque convertor drain with the corresponding hole on the flexplate?

302 was not available with a C6 until 1978 and then only in F100/150's as an option, C4 was also available.

No 1969/79 Passenger Car was available with a 302 and a C6. The only A/T's available with 302's were C4's & FMX's.

C4 uses different flywheels than C6 and there are several different C4 types and tooth counts.

Obviously, the OP needs to know about the flywheel etc, but the fact that motor spins and did start tells me he has a working combo there. His "no start" would seem to be fuel/spark related.

Maybe.

To the OP, any progress?

The motor spins as does a ferris wheel, but what flywheel (flexplate-not a Ford term) did the OP use with a 302 from a 1978 and a C6 from a 1976?

Is the starter correct for an A/T, or is a M/T starter? Wrong starter will chew the flywheels teeth down to a nub, may not even reach the teeth.

Did the OP remember to install the spacer plate between the engine and trans?

You can bet the farm that once this thing runs, it will have a vibration, cuz the flywheel won't match the harmonic balancer.

Won't be long until the vibration tears the center from the flywheel, then the OP can fix it properly.

Well, the motor hasn't run long enough for that rear it's ugly head, but I think it's 60-40 you are right. Anyone taking bets?

Well the problem was a broken or sticky ignition and dying battery, but theres a bit of vibration so i guess you get to keep your farm.
